演題：Cities of Power
要旨：This is a presentation from a work in progress on how cities represent and manifest power. It is a global study, starting from the rise of nation-states and their national capitals, going up until today. It lays out an analytical framework of the main variables of power shaping modern urban, and especially capital city, history in the world. While also dealing with urban form and urban functionality, the study, and this presentation in particular, pays particular attention to symbolic representations, through, e.g., the spacing and the architectural grammar of power of important buildings, and forms of monumentality and commemoration. The presentation will include some illustrative pictures.講師紹介：Göran Therborn is professor emeritus of sociology at the University of Cambridge. Before Cambridge he was co-Director of the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study in the Social Sciences. His books in this millennium include: Between Sex and Power. Family in the World, 1900-2000 (2004), The World. A Beginner’s Guide (2011), and The Killing Fields of Inequality (2013)
